The Pieces We Keep Going Back To

The Pieces We Keep Going Back To

Not every design stays with you.

Some come and go — part of a collection, a phase, a moment in time.
And then there are some pieces that quietly stick around. The ones you keep thinking about, reworking, reintroducing. Not because they need fixing, but because they still have more to say.

At Onebytwo, we’ve realised that the pieces we go back to the most are the ones that feel… unfinished in the best way. Like they’re open to evolving with us.

Take the Fold chair. It started as a simple idea — a clean, functional chair that could be tucked away when not in use and brought out when you needed it. Perfect for compact homes, last-minute guests, dining setups that expand and shrink depending on the day. It did its job quietly. No fuss, no drama. But it stayed with us.

Maybe it was the way it fit into so many homes so easily. Or how often we found ourselves recommending it without even thinking twice. Somewhere along the way, we knew we’d come back to it. And we did.

With Fold 2.0, we didn’t change the structure. We didn’t redesign the function. We just added a layer — replacing the chiseled back with a brass inlay detail, drawing from the Sabha collection. Same chair, new expression. A little more rooted, a little more detailed, but still as easy and versatile as before.

Some designs don’t need reinvention. Just a new voice. Then there are pieces that surprise you.

Like the Big Wheels trolley. When we first designed it, we didn’t think of it as the star of the room. It wasn’t meant to be the main piece. It was functional — something that would move around, carry things, assist. But homes had other plans. It became the bar setup for some, a serving station for others, a side companion that showed up during gatherings, dinners, and quiet evenings alike. It moved, adapted, became part of routines. And before we knew it, it became one of our most loved pieces. Which got us thinking — what if we explored this further?

That’s how the Drift Cart came in. A softer, more everyday take on the trolley. More wood, a little more grounded, less about hosting and more about daily use. While Big Wheels thrives in moments of gathering, Drift quietly blends into everyday life. Two trolleys. Same idea. Different moods.

What we’ve learnt over time is this —
not all pieces need to be loud to last.

Some designs stay because they work.
Some stay because they adapt.
And some stay because you find new ways to love them.

These are the pieces we keep going back to.
Not out of habit — but because they keep evolving with us.

And maybe, with you too.
